MUMBAI: SpiceJet aims to increase its revenue through ad space selling on its website, spicejet.com.

The airline has identified various advertising opportunities on its website, which it hopes would help generate additional revenues of 8 million by FY 2010 for the company.

With approximately 14 million page views a month and 800000 registered database per month, the website accounts for 75 to 80 per cent of the airline's ticket booking.

With this new initiative, SpiceJet plans to bring a whole host of advertising opportunities for online advertisers, available in the form of banners on home page, flight schedule page, pop-up windows and space on exclusive e-mailers that are sent to all SpiceJetters.

SpiceJet chief commercial officer Samyukth Sridharan said, "This is a conscious decision by SpiceJet to cash on the lucrative online advertising space. The airline which represents both masses and classes in the country gets huge traffic to its website everyday from the aspiring middle class segment, students, business and corporate travelers, and mid size entrepreneurs. This makes it the right place for the advertisers to advertise and reach out to all their target audience. Spicejet.com has been a great source of revenue since the beginning and we are now working towards generating non-ticketing revenues through ad space selling on the site."

He furtheradded, "We have been successful with Onboard ad space selling, sale of fast food and novelty items and with this new initiative we aspire to give our advertisers a chance to impact their brand presence and reach out to millions of spicejet.com visitors."

As per industry experts says that the internet penetration in India is estimated to have grown at an average of 60 percent for the last five years and online advertising is estimated to reach a value of Rs 7.5 billion by 2010.
