NEW DELHI: Sonali Chatterjee has joined CNN International (CNNI) as sales director for India and South Asia, the company announced today.

Based in New Delhi, Chatterjee leads the network's advertising business in the region. Her key responsibilities include managing and offering strategic advice to the increasing number of companies targeting the global consumer, through CNN's various platforms.

Chatterjee comes to CNNI with an extensive advertising sales experience and a cross-functional strategic perspective that will augment the network's future growth in India, the channel authorities are convinced.

"With the rising globalisation of Indians, who now seek more international news coupled with the strong emergence of Indian companies on the global stage, CNN has been a channel of choice for advertisers in this market.

"The current line up of CNN clients range from Consulting, Information Technology, Infrastructure, Banking, Tourism, Industrial goods, Power, Retail to Automobiles sectors," a company statement says.

Prior to her appointment at CNN, Chatterjee was head of sponsorship and client solutions for India at BBC World, and spent nearly a decade there.

Her role included building the brand salience amongst advertisers and the trade, and moving the revenue focus from domestic to international sales.

Chatterjee started her career with print in 1990, with the Ananda Bazaar Patrika group, and then moved to Nimbus Communications Ltd. to oversee the airtime sales of live sports and entertainment channels such as cricket and international film award ceremonies.
