MUMBAI: 'Client rights have been violated by broadcasters and now unity between advertisers is important' - this was the consensus arrived at, at a meeting The Indian Society of Advertisers (ISA) held this evening to discuss the surcharge issue.

Sources state that the aim of the meeting was to ensure that clients stuck together and did not break rank.

The ISA is also contemplating moving the court to obtain a stay order against the surcharge. The ISA is believed to have sent a letter to the concerned broadcasters informing them of their intentions.

Sources also state that though contracts are signed between agencies and broadcasters, very often the big clients also co-sign.

One also needs to bear in mind the fact that clients are the affected party.

As far as the broadcasters are concerned, a senior official says that a move of this sort had been expected. He also says that broadcasters have the right co-complete the execution of a contract within a certain period of time. So if ads do not air for a certain period of time they will air in the future.
