MUMBAI: Kingfisher Airlines, which commenced operations about 29 months ago has roped in model-actress Deepika Padukone as its brand ambassador.

Speaking on the occasion, UB Group chairman Dr Vijay Mallya says, "Yana Gupta was our brand ambassador at the time of launch and she did a wonderful job. We have a market share of 13 per cent and the aviation business is growing at 40 per cent a year. We now feel the need to have a face for Kingfisher Airlines that reflects the young, prosperous India. We want to be more customer responsive. That is why we have chosen Deepika Padukone as our brand ambassador."

Further Mallya said that during its launch, Kingfisher airlines had promised a world class experience and managed to achieve it. "When we started Kingfisher Airlines in 2005 there was skepticism. However I think that I have delivered huge value to the shareholders," he said.

"Deepika will be our eyes and years giving us feedback on customers opinions who suggest where we can improve. Since we will commence overseas operations next year we also wanted a face that would be internationally recognised," he said.

He adds that the Airline always treats customers as guests rather than as simply passengers. This has helped enhance the brand's image.

Padukone who stars in the much-awaited Bollywood release - Om Shanti Om which releases on 9 November, already enjoys a strong fan following. Kingfisher Airlines said that it had been looking for someone who had the potential to emerge as a leader in her chosen field.
