MUMBAI: Global licensor and brand management company Cherokee Inc. has signed an exclusive international license agreement with Arvind Mills Ltd.

This multi-year agreement for its Cherokee brand covers a wide range of categories including men's, women's and children's apparel, footwear, accessories, home and other categories.

According to an official release, brands that Cherokee Inc. owns and represent generate over $3 billion in annual retail sales worldwide. The company's principal focus is global 'retail direct' licensing.

Globally, it has partnered with retailers like Target Stores, Tesco Plc, TJX Companies, Zellers (Hudson Bay Company) and Pick'n Pay.

Arvind Mills chairman and MD Sanjay Lalbhai said, "The revolution of organized retail is sweeping India and with our experience of working with international brands and knowledge of the Indian retail environment, we are confident that Cherokee will be one of the largest family lifestyle brands across India."

Cherokee Inc senior VP Mark Nawrocki said, "Arvind was the first company to bring leading international clothing brands to India and today their brand list is impressive. Their Megamart outlet centres, their planned roll out of free standing Cherokee Stores as well as their Lifestyle business expansion provides us the right model for success."

According to Cherokee Inc senior VP Larry Sass, "India's growing economy provides Cherokee with tremendous growth potential. This along with our announcement of the Cherokee license in Brazil, are major accomplishments towards our 'World Branding' objective.

"We are now licensed in 28 major countries and we look to continue to look for partners in markets throughout Europe and Asia. In addition, with our international reach we will also focus on licensing other brands within our portfolio that we own or represent," he said.
