MUMBAI: Sahara Filmy will celebrate International Mango Day on 19 May by showcasing films which take up issues sensitive to the common man. In other words, "aam day for aam aadmi."

Sahara Filmy marketing and content head Shailesh Kapoor says, "We came up with this theme of Mango Day wherein we could celebrate the toast of the summer season India, by giving away mangoes. In a style characteristic to the channel's positioning, we've tried to project the play of words - aam ke aam gutliyon ke daam."

During the commercial breaks of these movies, the viewers will have to answer simple questions, via sms and they could win themselves an "aam ki peti", literally meaning a box full of mangoes.

The channel will showcase Tathasthu where the main protagonist takes on the medical system, Police Public that emphasizes the phrase that it is better to stay away from the police as neither their friendship nor their enemity is good and Khosla Ka Ghosla, which deals with the menace one goes through to find a house of your choice in a place you like.

He points out, "Mango is called the king of fruits. Through in-channel promotions, we expect viewers will enjoy the movies and savour their favourite fruit at the same time."

Filmy has had a reputation of presenting its content through a humorous take on current issues. Earlier, on 15 August 2006 instead of showcasing patriotic films, the channel presented back-to-back comedy scenes from films under the title 'Freedom to Laugh.'
