Radio Mirchi chips in with 'quit tobacco' campaign

MUMBAI: Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM will celebrate anti-tobacco day and convince people of Mumbai to quit smoking and chewing tobacco with a series of programmes starting from today.

Radio Mirchi will monitor Dhuaan Bujha, a chain smoker. Bujha has pledged to give up smoking within 21 days. He will be live on air in the evening show Bumper 2 Bumper hosted by RJ Tarun.

Listeners from across Mumbai will give him tips on how he should go about quitting. If he manages to quit smoking within the stipulated 21 days he will be offered goodies from Radio Mirchi.

The week long campaign will include expert tips from de-addiction expert and counselor from Bombay Hospital Dr Hemant Gupta who will talk about how one can get de-addicted.

Bollywood film stars will apologise for smoking on screen and ask listeners not to emulate them. Shahrukh Khan, Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Priyanka Chopra, Shahid Kapoor will appeal to listeners to give up smoking.

The campaign will also have RJ's dressed as Thambaku Daku who will travel around Mumbai in the morning and spot people smoking. They will take the cigarettes and beedis from them and give them toffee cigarettes instead.

Manoj Bajpai who recently gave up smoking after 22 years will give tips on 'How to quit smoking'. Further, the station will air all through the day a promotional advertiseuming tobacco and the benement discouraging people from chewing tobacco, talking about the hard consequence of consfits of chewing a gum.
