MUMBAI: Hansa Research, a part of the R K Swamy and Hansa Group, has made its first major acquisition in the
USA in the market research space, with full ownership interests in GCR Custom Research LLC, based in Portland, Oregon.

With the acquisition of GCR, Hansa Research immediately acquires global research capability and credentials in the IT space. While a reasonable amount of work from the USA will now flow back to be done in India by Hansa, it is expected that with Hansa's support, the overall reach and scope of GCR's operations will significantly expand. GCR also gains emerging markets expertise to strengthen its offerings in the USA, states an official announcement.

Hansa Research MD Ashok Das said, "We are committed that Hansa should develop as a global research player operating from India. We have acquired GCR as it gives us immediate global capability. It also opens up exciting opportunities for our people. Integration of GCR into the Hansa operations is now our top most priority."

R K Swamy and Hansa Group chairman Srinivasan K Swamy said, "This is our first major step in creating an overseas presence for the Group. We are looking at opportunities to enter other areas of marketing services in the United States. We are confident of scaling up to provide high quality service to clients across borders."

GCR, a 25-year old market research company with revenues of $8million in 2007, specialises in the technology space. Its client list includes HP, Cisco, Microsoft, Tektronix, BEA, Xerox, AMD, Intel and EDS among others. GCR conducts global research with over 60 per cent of its work undertaken in markets outside the USA. The company, which was at one time the custom research arm of Gartner, was acquired from Private Equity owners.
