MUMBAI: South African Tourism is looking to woo the Indian traveller with the roll out of a national advertising campaign which will kick off in 11 cities in four different languages through newspapers, magazines, online, outdoor hoardings and in-cinema media.

South African Tourism India country head Lance Littlefield said, "India is an important and growing market for South Africa. We believe that South Africa is uniquely placed to offer a wide spectrum of experiences to travellers from the sub-continent. The rich culture, wildlife, natural beauty, relaxation, shopping, amusement, entertainment and business needs of any traveller can be fulfilled during their visit to South Africa. The advertisement campaign will highlight all these wonderful aspects of this exciting country."

According to an official announcement, the campaign will focus on four aspects about holidaying in South Africa - wildlife safari, scenic beauty, lifestyle experiences and shopping. With this in mind as the key drivers, the respective positioning statements are as follows:
- "Wanderlust meets wonder."
- "Poetic meets indescribable."
- "Fabulous weather meets feathered friends."
- "Light heart meets heavy bags."

South African Tourism sees India as a potential growth market. Highlighting the current trends, Littlefield added, "Research has shown that overall Indian travellers were more than satisfied with their South African experience and a good percentage of them plan to return for a second holiday. Indian travellers primarily focus on wildlife safaris, visiting destinations of natural beauty, shopping, amusement and entertainment during their visit to South Africa. We are extremely delighted that South Africa has arrived not only as a globally hot and happening destination, but also as one that Indian travellers are starting to take notice of in a big way."

Tourist arrivals in 2006 have increased considerably. As per the latest research conducted by SA Tourism, October 2006 saw an increase of 31.9 per cent growth as compared to October 2005. The growth from January to October 2006 was 18.9 per cent as compared to the same period last year. Provisional year-end results show a 23 per cent growth for the year, adds the release.

The first South African Tourism office opened in Mumbai in February 2005 and Lance Littlefield is the region's first country manager for India, to help spread awareness and encourage travel in the key market niches. As part of their future plans, South African Tourism in India has planned consumer promotions, road shows among several other marketing promotions.
