MUMBAI: US fast food major McDonald's and Sony Pictures Animation have tied up for the release of the film Surf's Up.

The characters from the movie catch a wave into McDonald's Happy Meals and Mighty Kids Meals. With the purchase of a Happy Meal or Mighty Kids Meal, young guests will receive one of eight Surf's Up surfing-action toys, till supplies last.

Pen Gu Island's Cody Maverick, Lani, Tank, Chicken Joe, Geek, Reggie and Big Z become part of the new Surf's Up Happy Meal and Mighty Kids Meal collection, giving kids and their families a chance to enjoy surfing action-inspired toys, including mix-and-match customizable surfboard inserts.

Surf's Up-themed stickers can be placed on the boards and toys for a true make-it one's-own creation. The Surf's Up Happy Meal collection also includes two movie-inspired toys that feature water wave technology.

McDonald's USA senior director of family marketing Kathy Pyle says, "School is out and warm weather means fun in the sun. The action-packed Surf's Up Happy Meal collection inspires kids to be active both on land and in water."

Surf's Up is an animated action-comedy that delves behind the scenes of the world of competitive surfing. The film profiles teenage Rockhopper penguin Cody Maverick ( voiced by Shia LaBeouf), an up-and-coming surfer, as he enters his first pro competition. Followed by a camera crew to document his experiences, Cody leaves his family and home in Shiverpool, Antarctica to travel to Pen Gu Island for the Big Z Memorial Surf Off.

Along the way, Cody meets Sheboygan surfer Chicken Joe (voiced by Jon Heder), famous surf promoter Reggie Belafonte (James Woods), surf talent scout Mikey Abromowitz (Mario Cantone), and spirited lifeguard Lani Aliikai (Zooey Deschanel), all of whom recognise Cody's passion for surfing, even if it's a bit misguided at times.

Cody believes that winning will bring him the admiration and respect he desires, but when he unexpectedly comes face-to-face with a washed-up old surfer (Jeff Bridges), Cody begins to find his own way, and discovers that a true winner isn't always the one who comes in first.
