MUMBAI: WPP group chief executive Sir Martin Sorrell will be on a four-day visit to India this week to review operating businesses of the company and chalk out growth opportunities.

His stops in Mumbai and Delhi, it is learnt, will also be marked with discussions for forming new business alliances.

India is a strategic target for the WPP Group in terms of expanding its business especially in the digital domain via mergers and acquisitions.

Speaking to Indiantelevision.com WPP country manager India Ranjan Kapur said, "As part of his annual visit to India, Sir Martin Sorrell will be reviewing operational businesses of the company here in India." He, however, refused to divulge further information.

Meanwhile, a press briefing in Mumbai is scheduled for 18 July.

Globally, WPP has been bullish on its expansion into the digital arena through the acquisition mode. The company is looking to adopt the same approach for India, even though traditional media continues to dominate the advertising landscape as opposed to new media.

The company is particularly eyeing the mobile space in India, whose subscriber base is much larger than Internet penetration. This will form a core area for the company's growth strategy in India.
