BANGALORE: Rediffusion DYR has bagged the Agency of the Year award at the Bangalore Ad Club ‘Big Bang 2007 Awards.’ Mindshare was declared the best Media Agency of the Year. Airtel won the client of the year award.

While Rediffusion DYR took home the most awards at the gala event, other notable winners were Mudra, Maxus, Contract Advertising and Nirvana Films.

"Bangalore’s Big Bang awards saw 27 agencies and ten clients submitting 575 pieces of creative work to vie for the 54 awards," said Ad Club president Rajiv Rastogi.

The Best Continuing Campaign (three years) was won by Mudra Communications for Rm K Vishwanath Pillai & Sons and the Ayaz Peerbhoy Multimedia Campaign of the year was bagged by Rediffusion DYR for Earth Tree. The ‘Film Production House of the year’ was Nirvana Films.

Anto Noval of Rediffusion DYR was adjudged the Best Copywriter of the Year, while the Most Promising Newcomer was Sandeep Kumar of Rediffusion DYR.

The Ad Club also gave away awards to the winners of the Melting Pot co-sponsored by Radio Mirchi which was held last week. The gold award of Rs 15,000 was bagged by Mudra Communications. There was no second prize given. The bronze award of Rs 5,000 each was shared by two teams of Saatchi & Saatchi Direct.

In the television commercial category Nirvana Films walked away with most of the awards, making a clean sweep with two bronzes, a silver and a gold award – the bronze was shared by Nirvana’s ‘Ford Fiesta’ and ‘Tansihq’ ads, the silver for its ‘Green Lam’ and the gold for it’s ‘Voltas’ ads for the Durables segment.

While in the Non-Durable category Nirvana won a bronze, silver and gold for its ‘Pepsodent’, 'Ponds Expressions', and ‘Lifebouy’ ads. In the TVC services, Nirvana’s ad for ‘Worldspace Road’ shared the bronze with Rediffusion DYR’s ad for Earth Tree. Nirvana won the silver in this category for its ‘Hutch Magic’ ad. The gold was bagged by TBWA/India’s TVC for 70mm movie rentals in this category.

For the Best Media Innovation –TV category, the bronze, silver and gold awards were bagged by Mindshare for it’s ‘IBM’, ‘Lenovo-PC’s’ and ‘Lenovo-Jog Dial’ ads respectively.

No entries were received for the Best Kannada Press Ad and Best Kannada TVC category.

For its contribution to digital cinema UFO Moviez won three awards including a gold for Best Media Innovation - Digital, gold in Best Media Innovation - Cinema and a bronze in Best Media Innovation - Never Before Used Media.

The jury for the awards consisted of professionals like Dan Ginsberg (Founder Chairman Draft Worldwide) Harish Bijoor (founder Harish Bijoor Consultants) S Ghosh (Head, Saatchi & Saatchi) Alok Arora (Head Marketing Sanyo BPL) Vishnu Patel (CEO – International, UFO Moviez) Vinod Nair (President – India & South Asia Getty Images) Nischal Puri (Head Marketing of Jockey) Gautham Machaiah (Corporate Vice President, Zee) and Meera Pillai (Film Maker) among others.

A few members of the jury commented on the lack of quality entries, as well as the relatively lower number of entries overall. "The really talented people have not submitted their entries. There is a lot of good work being done out of the south, especially Bangalore, but these people have not submitted anything," said a jury member, speaking to Indiantelevision.com. "In some categories where we had enough entries, we found that some of them just did not deserve an award," he revealed.

Conspicuous by their absence were entries from agencies like Madison, O&M and JWT among others. Some of the categories did not have any entries at all while some had insufficient entries.

• Art director of the year: Samson Samuel of Rediffusion DYR, Bangalore
• Campaign of the year: The judges have not awarded this prize for 2007.
• Big Bang award for media agency of the year: Mindshare.
• Film production house of the year: Nirvana Films
• Ayaz Peerbhoy multimedia campaign of the year: Rediffusion DYR for Earthtree
• Best Continuing Campaign (3years): Mudra Communications for Rm K Viswanatha Pillai & Sons
• Most Promising newcomer of the year: Sandeep Kuma Y of Rediffusions DYR
• Silver Trophies for other promising newcomers: Akshay Shetty T and Visah Vinekar of Rediffusions DYR.
• The lifetime achievement award was given to R K Sheshadri of Vishesh Advertising who has spent more than 50 years in advertising, the longest as vice president south for Clarion - Mc Cann for 15 years.
