MUMBAI: Mudra Institute of Communications Research acting dean Alan D'Souza. was awarded AMA-Metrochem Outstanding Manager of the Year Award for 2006 for his significant contribution in providing effective leadership and putting Ahmedabad and India on the Global Advertising map. He received the award at a glittering function held at the H.T Parekh Convention Center at the AMA Complex, ATIRA, Ahmedabad, which was attended by many of the prominent citizens of the city.

The AMA Metrochem outstanding Manager of the year award is given to recognize the significant contributions made by a person in a managerial position, to motivate upcoming professionals and enhance the prestige of the profession by enabling them to exercise their skills and competencies in the best possible manner and to directly or indirectly contribute towards the managerial effectiveness in different spheres.

Padma Vibhushan winner, M.S Swaminathan, was the chief guest at the occasion, presented the award to D'Souza. Swaminathan is well known as the Father of the Green Revolution in India .

Speaking on the occasion, D'Souza attributed his success to the strong values inculcated in him by his parents in the initial years. He also recognized the support received from his wife and three children and all the professionals with whom he has had the good fortune of working with over the years. This Award, he said, is really attributed to all of them. He also thanked the AMA for instituting such an award which recognized the contribution of Entrepreneurs.

A product of IIM Ahmedabad, D'Souza, has had a chequered professional career spanning over three decades. He has worked in Senior managerial positions in companies such as Boehringer Knoll, Glaxo, Shilpi and Mudra Communications. His longest stint has been with Mudra Communications where he last held the position of executive director.

D'Souza is a founder member of MICA, one of the best communications school in India.
