Amit Malhotra promoted to BVITV regional sales director, search on for India head

MUMBAI: Disney's international TV distribution arm Buena Vista International Television-Asia Pacific (BVITV-AP), has restructured its sales division. Amit Malhotra has been promoted to regional director, sales, pan-Asia, India and Singapore.

The announcement made today by BVITV-AP vice president, sales, Asia Pacific, Greg Johnson states that Mark Chan has expanded his role to director, sales, greater China and Ramez Sheikh has been promoted to senior manager, sales, South East Asia.

Malhotra's previous role as BVITV's director, sales, India has been expanded to manage and enhance the strategic relationships with Pan-Asian broadcasters, and BVITV's distribution business in Singapore. With effect from 1 June, he will be relocating BVITV-AP's regional head office in Hong Kong to take up his new role, following which a replacement in India is being sought, a company release states.

Malhotra joined BVITV in 2004 as manager, sales, India, based in Mumbai, and was responsible for opening the first office in the country by a U.S. television distributor.

Chan most recently served as director, sales, China, based in Beijing where inaugural events such as the Beijing Screenings, a localized version of the L.A. screenings, were brought to Chinese clients in August 2006. He now adds to his function the Hong Kong and Taiwan distribution business and will be based in Hong Kong, with immediate effect. Chan joined BVITV in 2003 as manager, sales, Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Indonesia.

Sheikh was previously manager, sales, Indonesia and emerging markets including Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Brunei. In addition to these markets, he will also cover with immediate effect, BVITV's distribution business across all platforms in Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Sheikh is responsible for bringing the first Jetix branded animation block in Asia Pacific to free-to-air in Vietnam, and in 2006, the "Annual Academy Awards". Sheikh is based in Hong Kong.

Other announcements include the appointments of Shreya Kapdi, assistant manager, client development, India and Karen Moon, assistant manager, sales, South Korea. Both Kapdi and Moon assume their roles with immediate effect, states the official announcement.

Kapdi will be responsible for managing existing client relationships and exploiting localization opportunities in India. Kapdi will be based in Mumbai and report directly to Amit Malhotra.

Based in Seoul, Moon has been appointed to support BVITV's distribution business in South Korea, reporting directly to Shinbong Kang, who oversees BVITV's distribution business in addition to managing the Disney Channel and Walt Disney Internet Group businesses in the country.

Commenting on the restructure Johnson said, "We have a very strong and dedicated sales team in Asia Pacific that have been integral to the growth of our local businesses in the region and in fostering strong client relationships. Amit, Mark and Ramez are dynamic sales executives, and we are very pleased to be recognizing their contributions made in the last few years. We're also very excited to be expanding the team with Shreya and Karen who bring with them experience and knowledge in their local markets."

He added, "BVITV was the first U.S. television distributor to expand regionally with six local offices in Asia Pacific, and this restructure further reflects our commitment to accelerate international growth and maintain our position as the leading U.S. distributor of television content in Asia Pacific."
