MUMBAI: As the official sponsor of the Indian Cricket team's apparel, Nike has announced the launch of its first range of cricket apparel in time for the cricketing season. The BCCI branded replicas of the game day and training apparel will be available in Nike stores across the country from 1 October 2006.

The Nike cricket apparel range comprises a mix of performance apparel for the serious cricketer and cricket inspired apparel for the ardent cricket fans in the country.

BCCI Vice President Lalit Modi said, "The BCCI branded replicas that are being manufactured and retailed by Nike is a representation of what the Indian Cricket team wears on the field. Nike has ensured that millions of cricket fans across the country will have access to these imported technologically superior performance gear. I'm sure this will be a treat to cricket fans."

The game day and training apparel uses advanced imported Nike patented technology fabric - DriFIT. This moisture management technology ensures that the excess moisture (sweat) from the body is 'wicked' away to the surface of the fabric where it can rapidly evaporate from, leaving the body cool and comfortable. In fact, the game day apparel goes one step ahead and incorporates 'sublimation' for reducing the weight of the garment - a technology that is presently available only internationally. This range of performance replicas will sport all the official logos and will be retailed at Rs. 1095 onwards, informs an official release.

The sports inspired range comprises a combination of 'Hero Tees' and 'Cricket Graphic Tees'. Designed for the Indian cricket fan, the hero tees carry the name and number of their 'hero' with the BCCI logo and the cricket graphic tees work around fun themes and concepts around cricket. These 100 percent cotton Tees will be sport funky with cricket messages on them that are topical and identifiable to the fan. This range will be available from Rs.595 onwards at Nike outlets."

To compliment the above range of sports inspired apparel, Nike is also introducing a range of accessories, including backpacks, bandana, wrist bands and head bands designed exclusively for cricket. This range is priced at Rs.250 onwards, adds the release.

Talking about the new apparel range, Nike India General Manager Sanjay Mehra said, "When the BCCI had awarded Nike to be the official kit sponsor for the Indian Cricket Team earlier this year, we at Nike started the task of bringing innovative products not just for the elite athlete but also for the millions of fans in India. We are now ready to actively market our first range of replicas of the Indian team kit in the country. The range is truly advanced and is a reinforcement of our commitment to the game of cricket."
