Pioneer set to capture the Indian in-car entertainment market

MUMBAI: In-car entertainment major Pioneer is planning to capture a significant share of Rs 10 billion Indian in-car entertainment market by unveiling a range of in-car WMA/MP3/CD players and speakers specifically designed and developed for India.
Pioneer Corporation Japan director and advisor Kaneo Ito said, "India is an extremely important and a strategic market for Pioneer, having domestic market of more than one million new cars. The India exclusive superior product lines launched today along with the range of exciting products on offer will help us capture a significant share of the in-car entertainment market."
Priced between Rs 5,990 - Rs 15,490, the head units launched are four-channel high-power WMA/MP3/CD players, which offer playback of various digital music formats including MP3 and Windows Media Audio (WMA), catering to the consumers of today who download music from the internet and create their own digital collection of music.

Pioneer also announced the signing of a distribution, marketing and service support agreement with Autocop India. The entire range of Pioneer in-car entertainment products including head-units, amplifiers and speakers will be sold through the strong retail network of over 3000 authorised dealers and serviced by 56 contact points and 40 regional offices established by Autocop across India.

By providing the customer with the best products with the best features at a competitive price, we will set new standards in the in-car entertainment industry in India," said Autocop India Pvt. Ltd president and CEO Umesh Deshpande.

Pioneer via Autocop also announced the signing up of OES (Original Equipment supplier) agreement with Hyundai Motors India and General Motors India. The Pioneer products will now be made available through the exclusive dealership networks of both the car manufacturers throughout India.

"We would be focusing on the after market as well as the significantly emerging OES/OEM markets where we have already made inroads by securing prestigious approvals from GMI & HMIL. Approvals from other OEMs are being pursued favourably and should come through shortly," added Deshpande.

Pioneer Electronics Asiacentre Pte Ltd Singapore managing director Tatsuo Takeuchi said, "We have customised the Pioneer in-car entertainment systems specifically for our customers in India who demand style, excellent audio quality and functionality in the music systems in their cars and we are targeting to capture significant share of each market segment via Autocop in FY 2007."

The new line up of Pioneer in-car entertainment products includes WMA/MP3/CD players, the new GM series amplifiers and 18 new models of speakers of which nine are exclusively for India. "Each model in head-unit boasts of a deep silver finish for better aesthetics, dramatically finer multicoloured display & superior features for improved performance," said Pioneer Liaison Office chief representative A Omukai.

All Pioneer head units and amplifiers carry a two year warranty, and will be serviced at customer’s door-step through the 24-hour service support network set up by Autocop India and a one-year free theft insurance supported by New India Assurance.
