MUMBAI: Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide and Marka have come together in a deal to establish a full-service brand communications and advertising agency in Bangladesh. O&M will own majority shares in the new agency, which will operate under the name Ogilvy & Mather Communications Private Limited.

An official release issued by the agency stated that Ogilvy & Mather Communications' clients will include Ogilvy's worldwide and regional clients as well as companies currently being serviced by Marka. The agreement was concluded by Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific Chairman Miles Young and Marka managing partner Fahima Choudhury and Ogilvy & Mather India CEO Pratap Bose.

"This new Bangladesh agency completes the foundation to our South Asia strategy", says Young. "We have a strong network in India and we just established fully owned operations in Pakistan. At the same time, Marka is well known as a nimble, solutions-oriented player in the local market. This new agency is an opportunity for us to provide our clients with seamless service across South Asia and to marry global resources with the best local know-how in order to do what I believe we do best - lead by example - in this fast-developing market."

Commenting on the merger Bose said, "Ogilvy would bring in its full armoury of specialized skills into the Bangladesh market and provide a quantum difference to what clients have traditionally been used to."

Choudbury added, "At Marka we are looking forward to our new venture with Ogilvy & Mather. Bangladesh is at the threshold of an advertising boom and this new agency will allow us to ride that boom. Ogilvy's 360 degree expertise, with our local expertise, puts us in a new league and will enable us to immediately mine the demand for comprehensive advertising and activation solutions."
