MUMBAI: Monster Worldwide, the parent company of Monster, the leading global online careers and recruitment resource, appointed former Nike executive Tony Balfour as president of its Asia Pacific operations.

In the newly created position, Balfour will be responsible for the development and growth of Monster's online recruitment services across the fast growing Asia Pacific region, including Monster's existing operations in India, South Korea, China and elsewhere in the region.

Balfour will be based in the Republic of China, and will assume his responsibilities at Monster on 1 October.

"Balfour will report to Steve Pogorzelski, Group president of International for Monster Worldwide, and will work closely with Monster's Asia Pacific country leaders. Under Balfour's leadership, Monster will continue to build awareness of its global brand, expand its worldwide job seeker audience, and deliver industry-leading online recruitment services to companies large and small across the Asia Pacific region. Monster also holds an important strategic investment in ChinaHR, adding to the company's growing presence in the region, states an official release.

"We are very pleased and excited to welcome Tony to the Monster team. The Asia Pacific region, particularly China, is a large emerging market with strong GDP growth, rapid job formation, and increasing broadband and Internet penetration. We strongly believe that Tony's leadership skills, local experience and proven ability to build brand awareness and efficiently manage a growing sales force will help Monster achieve its strategic objective to profitably expand its leadership position in this important region," says Monster Worldwide chairman & CEO Andrew McKelvey.

Adds Steve Pogorzelski, "Tony's proven operational track record and powerful skill set - combining online recruiting experience, successful brand building and sales force leadership - make him uniquely qualified for this important role. In India and Korea, Arun Tadanki and Hwasoo Kim have done an outstanding job in establishing our operations and building Monster's competitive position in important growth markets. The long-term opportunity for Monster in Asia is tremendous, and we are confident Tony will make a valuable contribution toward Monster's continued expansion and growth."

Balfour comes to Monster from Seek, Australia's online recruitment company, where he served as director of Marketing and Product. Prior to that, he served as General Manager of Nike's operations in Australia and New Zealand, and held a number of other positions with Nike over a nearly ten-year period, including General Manager of Asia Pacific, the release adds.
