BANGALORE: To effectively check the mounting pollution
levels in Bangalore city, the Karnataka government is considering
implementing a vehicle registration holiday for a month.
Higher vehicle taxes and making maintenance costs
of vehicles higher, compulsory conversion of transport vehicles to
CNG fuels are among the other measures being thought over.
The vehicle registration holiday would also involve
complete stoppage of registration of all vehicles.
The car sellers in the city feel that government's
decision will negatively effect the car sales market. In Bangalore,
on an average at least 15 cars are registered and sold by each of
the dealers. According to market sources, overall, almost 1000 new
vehicles are registered everyday in the city.
