Taking a cue from the spirit of Christmas, Radio City 91 FM and
Akshara Foundation have joined hands to help touch a child's life
by organising a gift donation drive through Radio City's "Gift
A Toy, Spread Some Joy" campaign.
Radio City 91 FM through select retail partner outlets, will collect
old and new toys for less privileged children in Bangalore from
11 to 21 December, says a company release. The collected toys, either
old or new, swill be then given to the Akshara foundation, to be
distributed to children in slums and orphanages, balwadis
in Bangalore on Christmas Day.
The collections centres' in Bangalore are put up at Lifestyle -
Victoria Road, Family Mart - Kanakpura Road and G K Vale outlets
located at Fraser Town, M.G. Road, Gandhi Nagar, Indra Nagar, Koramangala,
Jaya Nagar and Basawangudi, says the release.
Says Radio City, COO, Sumantra Dutta, "This festive season
Radio City wants to bring a smile to all the less privileged children
of Bangalore. Radio City would like to educate the masses about
the plight of the less privileged and would like to create awareness
about the same. Radio City 91 FM believes every child has the right
to smile at festival times and through the 'Gift A Toy, Spread Some
Joy' campaign we would like to enable less privileged children to
do just that".
According to Akshara Foundation trustee Rohini Nilekani, "Radio
City is a very valuable partner to the Akshara Foundation. The last
'The Right to Read' on-air campaign brought us hundreds of volunteers
eager to help children learn to read. In this 'Gift a toy' campaign',
so appropriate to the spirit of the season, I am sure the generosity
of Bangalore listeners will make many children very happy; children
who till now had just their imagination to play with. I am already
smiling at the thought of their joyous faces when the toys will
be in their little hands! We at Akshara are very grateful to Radio
City and Bangalore City for their support."
Earlier, on the occasion of Diwali, Radio City undertook a similar
activity in Mumbai, Delhi and Lucknow and collected over 14,000
toys across the three cities, which were distributed in Balwadis,
orphanages and remand homes.
