In a 'high-spirited' ceremony, awards were bestowed upon the best
business, sports, communications and entertainment personality of
the year. A special outstanding achievement award was given to director
Yash Chopra.
In the business category, HSBC chairperson Naina Lal Kidwai took
the award from among contenders Rajiv Kaul, G Krishnan, Ashwin Dani
and Satish Reddy; in the sports category tennis player Mahesh Bhupati
got the award among Jaspal Rana, Geet Sethi, Arjun Atwal and Anjali
Bhagwat; in the communication category, Vikram Chandra got the award
among Shoba De, Harsha Bhogle, Prasoon Pandey, R Balakrishnan and
Freddy Birdy and in the entertainment category, Shiamak Davar bagged
the award among Adnan Sami, Deepa Mehta, Palash Sen, Ashish Vidyarthi
and Anandan Sivamani.
According to a company release, Allied Domecq managing director
Harish Moolchandani said at the awards ceremony, "It has been
a pleasure for us to partner with some great luminaries in their
fields, who are present here today as our jury members, to select
and recognise the achievers of today. This is just a humble attempt
by us to felicitate those who fit right in with our brand promise
of 'Genuine quality speaks for itself'. We hope to spur them and
others to greater heights."
The jury for the award function included Apollo Tyres chairman
OS Kanwar, Wartsila chairman Subodh Bhargava and Mphasis MD Jerry
Rao for the business category; Michael Ferreira, cricketer K Srikant
and journalist Ayaz Memon for the sports category; Pritish Nandy,
Piyush Pandey and Haresh Chawla for the communications category
and Pandit Jasraj, Shammi Kapoor and jazz artiste Louiz Banks for
entertainment.
Celebrities present at the award function included Ramesh Sippy
and Kiran Juneja, Subodh Bhargava, Atul Kasbekar, Pooja Bedi, Bikram
Saluja, Ashish Vidhyarthi, Sivamani, Louiz Banks, Bharat Dhabolkar,
Harsha Bhogle, Maria Gorretti and Arshad Warsi to name a few. The
function was hosted by Siddhartha Basu and Manasi Scott..
