MUMBAI: Not content with just funky programming, MTV has announced
a series of zany contests.
One of them, the MTV Big Top Contest involves visiting the
channel's site, mtvindia.com and opining on what one thinks is the
biggest event of the month. Up for grabs is a free trip to Malaysia
to visit the Petrona Towers. The site is also fine tuning the Bombay
Dreams on London Bridge Contest. The answer to a simple question
could see one flying to London to catch the Andrew Lloyd Webber
musical.
On the programming front, MTV has launched Full Toss. The
45 minute vignettes tell cricket lovers interesting factoids about
their favourite players. For instance, Anil Kumble's pet name, the
regulation width of a cricket bat. The channel has also launched
a five minute vignette called MTV Headstarts. This features
people who have made a big name for themselves early in life. People
featured include Jaspal Rana and Karan Johar.
MTV Jackass, another zany show hosted by Johnny Knoxville
has become something of a cult in the US. The aim of the channel
is to give Indian viewers a flavour of what their counterpars in
the West are tuning in to, says MTV.
