MUMBAI:
US broadcaster Fox has announced that Ellen DeGeneres will
once again join Ryan Seacrest as co-host of Idol Gives
Back.
This
is its music-based reality show American Idol's music
celebration which looks to raise awareness and funds to benefit
various US and international charities.
DeGeneres will host from the Kodak Theatre with Seacrest hosting
from the American Idol stage in Los Angeles on 9 April.
In
India, American Idol airs on Star World. Last year,
the special got a Governor's Award Emmy for raising $76 million.
DeGeneres
says, "Everyone knows it's better to give than to receive.
That's why I want to give you some advice. You get the advice
and I get the joy of giving... it's a win-win. Here it is:
Give yourself a treat and watch Idol Gives Back. Again,
you get the joy of giving and an amazing lineup of artists
get to give us an incredible show. Last year, we were able
to giveaway over $76 million. You give, you get. Get it?"
The
brainchild of Simon Fuller, Idol Gives Back has earned
praise from the likes of US President George W Bush, Prince
Charles and British PM Gordon Brown.
During
the show, viewers will be able to make donations via toll-free
lines and the internet.
