Time-Stanton JV signs IPTV on mobile with Chinese operators

MUMBAI: Time Broadband Services and joint venture partner Stanton Technologies have announced the launch of their IPTV service over 2.5G mobile platform.

The JV also announced signing of contracts with DiGi in Malaysia and China Mobile and China Unicom in China.

"Through an exclusive deal with the Chinese government owned entity, the Time-Stanton JV will have access to provide IPTV to over 500 million mobile subscribers in China," an official release said.

TIME Broadband has also signed an MoU with the Indian Music Industry to be the License Content Provider for IPTV on various platforms.

Present on the occasion were Time Broadband Services CEO and MD Sujata Dev; Stanton Technologies, Malaysia CEO Mervin Nevis; Dubai Ventures MD Rajat Jhunjhunwala; ASSOCHAM secretary general D S Ranawat; Producers' Guild secretary general Supran Sen; and IPTV India Forum president Shyamal Ghosh, apart from other guests and dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion Dev said, "Time Stanton JV is the stepping stone for global expansion of digitally repurposed Indian and other content for multiplier effect of IPTV, where mobile IPTV is one of the platforms. With continued support from our investor, we are confident that this JV will become one the top mobile IPTV service provider globally."

Said Nevis, "After our JV with TBSL and Malaysia launch, we have been able to jointly explore the Chinese market with Potevio, which gives us an access to 600 million subscribers of China Mobile and Unicom. We are excited to enter the Indian market through Time-Stanton JV. We appreciate the effort put in by Dubai Ventures to put this partnership together and have no doubts that together we will be able to bring about a revolution in IPTV experience of mobile consumers globally."

Subscribers can view the latest entertainment news, drama series and special mobisodes from the top studios of Bollywood while on the move.

Regarding growth plans, Dev said: "The JV is entering into new ventures in Dubai, Qatar, Hong Kong, Kenya and Algeria as target markets; with the additional support by Dubai Ventures and making initiatives for global promotion of Content Licensing activity. We will be happy to announce the emergence of M-VAS (Mobile Value Added Services) in Indian Telecom with the support of our strategic partners. Many new telecom licensees are already in dialogue with us for an early launch."

Time Broadcast Services recently got funding from Dubai Ventures, the equity investment arm of Dubai Investment Group.
