MUMBAI: Broadcast content security systems major IIrdeto has announced that Thailand’s digital pay-TV operator TrueVisions UBC has extended its existing digital TV solution to secure its new PVR (personal video recorder) product.

The Irdeto PVR solution, delivered in collaboration with Humax and OpenTV, will enable TrueVisions’ subscribers to experience enhanced features like content recording and playback and live pause.

Subscribers will be able to record up to 140 hours of TV programmes, control live TV and access interactive TV services such as the Football Live Score.

The PVR will be available to both TrueVisions UBC satellite and cable subscribers in Thailand.

Irdeto’s content security for PVRs ensures that broadcast signals are stored in encrypted form, and allows the operator to control PVR functionality, giving him the option to charge a subscription fee for use of the PVR if they so choose.

TrueVisions UBC is the largest subscription-based television provider in Thailand, offering over 80 channels covering infotainment, news, entertainment and sports programmes such as English Premiership League matches.

TrueVisions UBC chief commercial officer Ongard Prapakamol says, "Irdeto has been a key partner in our efforts to offer compelling and advanced services to better enable our customers’ lifestyle to enjoy television and other value added services.

Irdeto CEO Graham Kill says, "Irdeto delivers proven, end-to-end solutions for supporting a wide range of simple to advanced business models on any type of network. PVR is a good example of an advanced business model on both cable and satellite networks utilising Irdeto technology.
