SpongeBob Squarepants was running for an NGO called Committed Communities Development Trust (CCDT), which addresses the needs of children and families affected by HIV/AIDS, children in difficult situations and community health and development.

Speaking on the initiative, Nick India VP and GM Nina Elavia Jaipuria said, "We at Nick are totally geared up for the upcoming Mumbai Marathon. We have always believed that all kids need to maintain a balance between 'entertainment and fitness,' and we are hopeful that watching their favourite character run the marathon, will be a good motivation for kids."

"We are glad to be a part of this initiative and commit our support to CCDT for the betterment of the children affected by HIV /AIDS," she added.
