MUMBAI: International communications and information technology company Harris has delivered its 100th Nexio advanced media platform (AMP) server during the first six weeks of the product’s availability.

Recent new customers include broadcasters in Germany, Japan and Canada, as well as two major television networks in the US.

Nexio AMP builds on the success of the Harris Nexio server line, which has increasingly become the server of choice for customers around the world — including five of the eight major US networks.

The platform pairs a high-definition/standard-definition (HD/SD) server architecture with content protection. The new system combines the highest levels of I/O, data pathway and storage redundancy with all the features broadcasters have come to expect in Nexio servers — including integrated software codec support and automatic up/down/cross conversion.

Recent new orders came from Germany’s Astra APS through Teracue AG; the American Forces Network through Snader and Associates; Toyama Cable TV in Japan; Fox Sports Houston in the US; Canal 9 in Argentina and ExpressVu in Canada.

APS Munich VP of playout Stefan Hennecke says, "The Nexio AMP platform leverages the power of software in a number of innovative ways that provide immediate and future benefits for our operation. Today, we have a server that provides true format transparency with integrated software codec support and automatic up/down/cross conversion. In the near future, the platform will also have the ability to host software–enabled media applications, which will allow us to reduce our hardware expenditures, take the guesswork out of point–product compatibility and improve our overall workflow efficiency."

The first products introduced in the Nexio AMP family are the NX3601HDI media platform with integrated storage, and the NX3601HDX media platform for the Nexio storage area network (SAN). Both models excel at ingest, compression and playout, while allowing format-transparent operations. They feature two- and three-channel HD/SD mixed resolution modes, four– or six–channel SD modes, and support for a wide range of SD and HD codecs, including XDCAM HD and DVCPRO HD.

Nexio AMP looks to establish a foundation for a scalable, end-to-end HD/SD television solution. Harris adds that it dramatically expands the functionality of the traditional video transmission server by providing a platform that customers can build their businesses around with confidence.
