Prateek, Kanz to tap kid's apparel segment in India

MUMBAI: Indian apparel design, manufacturing and retail player Prateek has entered into a licensing arrangement with European Kids wear brand Kanz to mark its foray into kid's segment.

According to a company statement, efforts would be made to convert the tie up into a joint venture between Prateek and Kanz that will cover manufacturing, design as well as retail of Kanz merchandise in India.

Kanz kid's wear plans to roll out 60 outlets across the top 25 Indian cities in the first year of its operation, starting with Delhi. Kanz would be available through a mix of exclusive brand outlets, presence in multi-brand outlets and a shop-in-shop at large format stores like Central and Lifestyle. Some of the cities where Kanz will shortly be available are Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Ludhiana, Vishakapatnam, Kozhikode amongst others, states an official release.

Prateek managing director Pradeep Agarwal said, "Prateek has always been synonymous with understanding its ever-growing customers' needs and providing quality products. We felt there was a gap in quality clothing aesthetically designed for kids and were looking at entering this segment for sometime now. Through this tie-up, we will be providing the best of quality and latest European designs and aesthetic kids wear in the country. This tie up will add another dimension to the existing operations of Prateek. Kanz will be available in 25 major cities, through exclusive and multiple brand outlets."

Kanz, Germany MD Ozgur Bender said, "India has always been a potential market for many big western companies for years now. We were on a look out for a potential partner to enter the Indian market. Prateek being one of the pioneers in the Indian garment industry, they were a natural choice for us to partner with."

Kanz offers a range of clothing and accessories for kids between the age group of 0 to 12 years. The brand is retailed in 30 countries across Europe and Asia.
