MUMBAI: Viacom's kids channel in India, Nick is strategically targeting movie acquisitions at the upcoming audiovisual and digital trade event in France, Mipcom 2007.

Nick recently introduced a weekend movie block titled 'Nick Home Cinema' which it is looking to boost through a series of movie acquisitions of both animation and live action content. The objective of the broadcaster is to buy titles that appeal to the family at large.

Nick India VP and GM Nina Jaipuria told Indiantelevision.com, "We are focusing on movies big time at Mipcom this year. We are looking to acquire some good kids based titles, but more importantly films that make for family viewing."

"We will talk to several movie studios including Sony, Fox, Warner and others and are hoping to strike bulks deals to add to our existing movie kitty," adds Jaipuria.

Apart from their focus on movie acquisitions, the channel will also scout for new television properties. According to Jaipuria, 50 per cent of content on the channel is acquired while the remaining shows are from the Nickelodeon International library.

Acquired programmes currently on air and have delivered for the channel include Ninja Hattori, Perman, Batfink, Uncle Max and Shaun the Sheep.

"Mipcom also provides an opportunity to look out for new shows in the market and network with licensors from across different countries," adds Jaipuria.

Representing Nick India at Mipcom and Mipcom Junior is programming head for the channel Anu Sikka. Prior to the event, Sikka will meet with content heads of Nickelodeon from across its global markets to outline centralized and country specific deals at Mipcom.
