All DTH platforms told to carry mandatory channels

NEW DELHI: All direct-to-home platforms have to carry televisions channels notified for mandatory carriage under the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act 1995, according to an amendment to the licensing agreements issued by the government.

 

In modification of its own order of May 29 this year, the information and broadcasting ministry has said that the licensee shall carry or include in his DTH service the mandatory TV channels except the regional TV chanels.

 
If the licensees fail to do so, the Ministry has reserved the right to take action according to clause 20.1 of the Agreement.

Copies of the amended notification dated 10 September signed by I&B joint secretary Zohra Chatterji has been set to all DTH operators - ASC Enterprises (Dish TV), Tata Sky, Sun Direct, Reliance Blue Magic, and Prasar Bharati.
