BANGALORE:
Takshaa Academy for the Artist (Takshaa) and University of
Teesside (Teesside) have entered into a memorandum of understanding
(MOU).
According
to this agreement, Teesside will offer opportunities to the
students of Takshaa to study areas of multimedia, animation
and gaming, both while studying in Bangalore or in progression
to Teesside in the UK.
The
modalities of the arrangement are yet to be worked out. Broadly,
under the arrangement Teesside will map courses being offered
by Takshaa against degree programs and will provide appropriate
credits, subject to strong academic audit, for the students
to achieve advanced entry into Teesside's program.
"With
the rapidly growing demand for graduates to work in the animation
industry, it is important to produce graduates who have had
a high quality education in the fast emerging areas of animation.
The cutting edge courses of Takshaa and Teesside provide a
real competitive advantage for our students in the employment
market," said Teesside deputy vice chancellor Cliff Allan.
"The
philosophy of Takshaa is driven by the effort to bring computer
animation back to art and the belief that it isn't technology
that drives creation, but the power of the human mind,"
said Takshaa chairman Manu Ittina.
Both parties said that the synergies for both Takshaa and
Teesside match, with so many international organizations outsourcing
their IT requirements to India and the need for graduates
who can quickly enter the workforce.
Teesside
was one of the first movers that offered courses in animation,
gaming and multimedia and had seen rapid growth in attracting
students in the UK to these fields.
Currently,
with more universities in the UK offering courses in these
fields, the student enrollment number in these fields has
plateaued at around 1000 in the UK. Teesside has been actively
targeting South-East Asian countries like Malaysia and India
for tie-ups.
Takshaa
is an academy with Hollywood experience working on block busters
like Shrek 2, Madagascar, Hercules. Its faculty has worked
in studios such as Dreamworks, Disney and Weta.
