MUMBAI: Walt Disney will launch mobile services in the
Japanese market by next year.
Japan-based
division of Walt Disney Co. has signed up a fundamental
contract with Japanese Internet and telecom firm Softbank
Corp.
Under the deal, Walt Disney will lease telecom networks
from a Softbank unit, Softbank Mobile Corp., and start
providing nationwide service.
Disney
will make use of its well-known characters in making
its phone handsets, and offering its animated movies
for downloading exclusively to subscribers.
Disney
will also join forces with Softbank to develop handsets
and consign their output to other companies.
