Walt Disney Pictures' blockbuster hit Pirates of the Caribbean:
At World's End is poised to have the biggest worldwide
opening of all time, announced Walt Disney studios motion
picture marketing and distribution president Mark Zoradi.
According
to the announcement, the movie, opening in more screens (11,000-plus)
and theaters (4,362), than any other film is expected to shatter
the Memorial Day weekend record on Monday, eclipsing X-Men:
The Last Stand's $122.9 million four-day start last year.
This year the Memorial Day weekend in the US is 25 - 28 May.
At
the international box office the film is on track to gross
a record-setting $205.5 million through Sunday and has already
become the Studio's 54th release to join the $100 million
club.
Combined
with the domestic total of $126.5 million and the international
total of $ 205.5 million, the worldwide total as of Sunday
had hit $332 million after five days, becoming the number
one film not only in the US but across the world, said an
official release.
