Radio Mirchi Bangalore adds two jockeys in first RJ Hunt

BANGALORE: Radio Mirchi Bangalore (RMB) conducted the finals of their first ever RJ hunt – the ‘Nokia RJ hunt’, at a pub in Bangalore yesterday. The outdoor event was marred by heavy rains and had to be moved indoors. Two people of the five shortlisted from the second round – Naveen and Pallavi - will join the RMB Jockeys’ team. This RJ hunt is likely to be an annual event.

The judges for the final round during which the finalists had to undergo two tests were judged by Radio Mirchi cluster business head-Karnataka & Kerala, Amit Sathpathy, among others.

Taking a cue from the television reality shows, whenever and wherever the need for new RJ’s arises, Radio Mirchi has carried on similar hunts across other cities, some of which include Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, and now Bangalore.

Said Amit, “RJs are increasingly becoming role models for the youth and rightly so, as a successful RJ is mix of talent with spontaneity.”

RMB announced their RJ hunt a month ago. Contestants’ between 18 and 28 years of age desiring to participate in the first round could do so by either calling in to the Mirchi studio, or by picking up the forms from a Café Coffee Day or a Nokia Priority Dealer outlet.

Twenty two thousand people applied. A lot were eliminated in the first round. During the second round, the participants were given voice-training. Their aptitude, attitude and other attributes were studied and five finalists were shortlisted from this group. The two selected RJ’s will be sent to Mumbai for further training for the specific requirements that RMB has.

The other sponsors for the first RMB RJ hunt were Romanov cassettes and CDs and Hero Honda Xtreme. RMB RJ Avinash and dance troupe ‘Shadows’ provided the entertainment during the event which later culminated in a party. Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM has 12 operational radio stations in India and plan to start operations in twenty two additional cities. RMB is one of the first stations in Bangalore that started a trend here, with the Jocks’ speaking in a mixture if English, Hindi and Kannada. The programs deliver a mix of Hindi and Kannada songs.
