NEW DELHI: Broadcast tribunal TDSAT has directed a cable operator in south Delhi to immediately clear arrears amounting to Rs 15,534,985 towards Zee Turner Limited, along with interest of 10 per cent per annum from the due date till the payment is made.

AM Trinity Platco had been authorized by Zee Turner to subscribe and distribute the signals of its various channels to the declared subscriber base of 24,000 households. Zee Turner had alleged that the operator started defaulting in making the payments and consequently the huge arrears of Rs. 15.5 million piled up.

When repeated requests and legal notices to clear the outstanding arrears did not result in any payment, Zee Turner deactivated its signals and thereafter filed a petition with TDSAT.

The order came on the basis of the facts and hearing arguments of both parties.

Zee Turner is the joint venture partner of Zee Telefilms and Turner International for distribution of its channels in India. Zee-Turner's bouquet comprises 34 channels Some of these include the flagship channels Zee TV, Zee Cinema, Zee News, Zee Cafe, Zee Trendz, HBO, CNBC, CNN International, POGO, Cartoon Network, and the regional Zee channels, among others.

In a statement here, an official spokesperson for Zee Turner said, "We are extremely delighted with TDSAT's landmark judgment. For an industry like ours where cable operators easily get away with huge outstanding payments, a directive like this comes as a big relief. We have full faith in judiciary and this judgment has further strengthened our confidence."
