Disney ties up with Parragon for branded titles

MUMBAI: The Walt Disney Company in India has partnered with book publishers Parragon to introduce its range of popular titles for kids including Jungle Book, Black Beauty, Alice in Wonderland and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer among others.

With this, Parragon is also looking to tap the growing pictorial content market as it looks at launching country-specific content to nearly double its sales here.

According to a PTI report, Parragon Publishing India MD Vineet Sharma said "India has a huge market for illustrative books and this segment is growing significantly here. Our current offering, coupled with Disney titles would help us in doubling our sales in the country to two lakh books a month."

He said, their is a huge demand for Disney titles in India, which are presently provided by three other publishers here.

"To start with, we would introduce 50 fresh Disney titles in India and at our price points we should be able to capture a major share in the market for such books," Sharma said.

The company is also looking at introducing illustrative books on subjects of relevance to India.

"One of our best selling title globally is the Bible stories and we are looking at providing something quite similar to this India with short stories from Indian epic tales," Parragon GmbH publishing director Lutz Billstein said.

He said the company has not firmed up plans to introduce titles based on mythological tales in India and is presently focusing on its present titles, the PTI report adds.
