MUMBAI: Namco Bandai Networks Europe is working with television format creator and distributor FremantleMedia Enterprises to develop, publish and distribute mobile games based on the Idols format.

The multi-year agreement will see mobile games based on the Idols format launch across a number of territories in Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. This agreement is the first time Namco Bandai Networks has licensed content specifically for a European audience and follows the creation of a dedicated European mobile entity in January 2007.

Namco Bandai Networks Europe MD Masaji Okubo says, "Announcing this deal is a great milestone for Namco Bandai Networks, and it’s one which underlines our commitment to be one of the industry’s premier games companies. Idols is one of the biggest television formats in the world, with millions of fans who will soon be able to interact with their favourite show anytime they want."

FremantleMedia has sold the Idols format to 41 territories to date and these local versions of the format are watched by millions of people around the world. Mobile games based on television shows have been consistent best sellers, with games based on familiar shows topping the UK’s ELSPA mobile download chart for four months out of the last six.
