MUMBAI: Beijing Mobile, a subsidiary of China Mobile, has contracted with mobile software vendor Intec for a substantial upgrade to its licence for its multi-service convergent mediation solution, Intec Convergent Mediation.

It is expected to support rapid subscriber growth and to launch new services. Beijing Mobile provides communications services to around 14 million subscribers.

China Mobile claims to be the largest mobile operator in the world with over 321 million subscribers. The adoption of a robust, convergent mediation solution is to prepare for future growth and new services. It is also driven by a compelling need to reduce operating cost and complexity by managing the mediation of data from many different sources under a single convergent mediation system.

Intec VP Asia Pacific Norm Halvorson said, "As mobile services grow in volume, value and complexity, the scalability and outright performance of mediation is critical in ensuring that revenues are accurately and fully collected. The Chinese mobile marketplace is highly competitive, so the great success of Beijing Mobile in rapidly growing its customer base is evidence that its business and technical strategies are working well in this dynamic market."
