MUMBAI:
BSkyB has entered into a partnership with Sony wherein British
users of the PSP games console will be able to download films
and TV shows.
The
joint venture between the two will create Europe's first official PSP video download
service and an estimated 2 million PSP users in the UK and Ireland will avail
the service by early next year. A
number of providers, including Sky, already provide content downloadable into
mobile phones but consumers often complain about the small screens on most handsets.
Under the
Sky deal, PSP users will be able to download anything ranging from entertainment,
music, animation and sports content from both Sky and other channel partners. Videos
will be downloadable to PSPs either wirelessly or through a connection to a PC.
Sky says the tie-up with Sony will give PSP owners the opportunity to turn their
devices into personalised on-demand video libraries. Access to content will be
available either on a subscription or pay-per-view basis. The
broadcaster is looking at doing a similar deal with Nintendo, whose DS handheld
device has found a niche fan following amongst female users. |
