MUMBAI: THQ Inc. has announced that Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender has achieved Sony Computer Entertainment America's "Greatest Hits" status for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system.

Avatar: The Last Airbender made its video game debut in October 2006 and finished the year as THQ's top selling Nickelodeon property.

THQ senior vice president of North American sales and distribution Scott Guthrie said, "Last year, Avatar was a completely new property in THQ's extensive Nickelodeon portfolio of titles which includes the top-selling SpongeBob SquarePants game series. It's great to see the brand resonate so quickly with such a significant number of gamers."

"THQ did a great job of bringing the compelling characters and storylines from Nickelodeon's Avatar series to life in a thrilling interactive experience that resonated with gamers," said Nickelodeon vice president of digital products Shaul Olmert.

THQ is expected to release another Avatar video game this fall. Avatar: The Last Airbender--The Burning Earth will follow the second season of the TV series and is scheduled to release for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation 2 system, Wii home video game system from Nintendo, Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance.
