MUMBAI: As the age old Indian tradition of antakshri has been re-invented as a popular television format across general entertainment channels, Turner's live action Indian channel Pogo will unveil its own on-ground version titled Funtakshari. Slated to kick off on 15 July and the channel will invite entries on Sundays at 10 am and 12 noon.

Promising to be an innovative antakshri, the championship will invite kids from across the country to play the musical game with distinctive rounds like 'Gol Maal', 'Bujho to Jaane', 'Dumb Charades' and 'Filmi Chakkar.'

Kids across the country will be invited to participate in the on-ground activity, Pogo Funtakshari. Incorporating interactivity to the format, a contest spot will feature the antara of a song and will ask viewers to call in and sing the mukhda.

The latest marketing initiative from Pogo "Its' My TV" will offer kids across the country an opportunity to be featured on the channel and to become a RJ (radio jockey) for a day of the partner radio station - Radio One, states an official release.

Also fueling interactivity, the decision and choice of cities for the on-ground rounds of Pogo Funtakshari will depend on the number of entries received from a particular city.

Phase II of the championships will reach out to schools across the top four cities, chosen on basis of the entries received, inviting them to participate in 'Pogo Funtakshari'.

All aspiring participants will be made to go through a written test evaluating their knowledge of music. On passing the test, they will be cleared to participate in the city elimination rounds. Each of the four city Grand Finales will have 100 teams competing against each other, of which one senior and one junior team will get a chance to be featured on Pogo and an RJ for a day.

"Pogo is all about empowering kids and we ensure that all our marketing initiatives demonstrate that. 'Pogo Funtakshari'' is about recognizing children's passion for music and singing and offers them a platform to showcase their singing talent and give them an opportunity to interact with their favourite channel. Kids have the ability to decide in which city 'Pogo Funtakshari' should be held based on the number of entries received from their city. The cities with the highest number of entries shall host the events," says Turner Entertainment Networks - Asia Pacific executive director - marketing Vivek Krishnani.

Last year, Pogo received an overwhelming 1,00,000 entries, and participation from over 400 schools as the event reached out to a whopping 1.8 million kids. The channel hopes to make it even bigger this year.
