MUMBAI: Broadcasters Sony Entertainment, Nimbus, ESPN Star Sports, Ten Sports, NDTV in partnership with US based media equity fund Providence and sports marketing agency World Sports Group are among those who have picked up tender documents for the Indian Premier League's global media rights for broadcast and other media rights, according to a newswire report put out today.

"The response from all the international broadcasters has also been very inspiring. I think collectively this response is reflective of the international stature of the IPL and the fact that it is poised to become a true international franchise," Press Trust of India quotes Lalit Modi, chairman and commissioner, IPL as saying.

BCCI opened the invitation to tender process four days back but has decided to extend the deadline after the response, PTI quotes Modi as stating.

Modi had earlier told Economic Times: “We are allowing any broadcaster who is interested to bid. However, for them to qualify, the IPL working committee will look at criteria such as minimum reach, which needs to be substantial.”

The ET report had quoted Modi as confirming that a total of seven broadcasters have bought the IPL tender till date. ET, quoting industry sources, named Sahara, Ten Sports, NDTV group, 9X and Television 18 as among those that has expressed interest in bidding for the League’s broadcast rights.

However, sources from two of the broadcast companies mentioned in the reports gave a different picture to Indiantelevision.com. According to one of them, only applications have been taken for the tenders till now. The tenders will be opened only in late January, the sources say.
