NEW DELHI: The Sakaal Group of Publications, which primarily brings out Marathi and English publications from Maharashtra, has announced it will launch two general entertainment television channels and an English-language newspaper in the new year.

The media house publishes several titles including Daily Sakaal and Gomantak in Marathi and Gomantak Times and Maharashtra Herald in English.

The regional general entertainment channel in Marathi will be called Saam Marathi, and the Hindi channel will be called Saam Hindi. The Marathi channel may come early in the year.

Sanjay Dabke, head of TV projects at Sakaal Group, said most shows will be interactive, whereby the audience will feel part of the process. There will also be time slots targeted at women, in which the audience will be able to participate.

The group will also launch the English-language daily in Pune in April 2008, later releasing it in phases in other major cities across the country.
