Maker of Sthree Shyam Sunder dies

BANGALORE: Maker of the Malayalam popular serial Sthree and Asianet Suvarana's chief operating officer Shyam Sunder succumbed to a heart attack on Wednesday night. He was 44.

Sunder's body was consigned to the flames today. He had been admitted to the Wockhardt Hospital in Bangalore where stents were placed as a part of his treatment. He had suffered a heart attack on 22 December.

Sunder ran a Chennai-based production house Yantra Media. In that avatar he had directed Sthree which aired on Asianet. Sthree changed the semantics of television serials in India; it went on to complete 400 episodes in two years during its initial run. Vinaya Prasad, who played the lead role of Sthree's 'Indu' became a household name in Kerala.

Tullu speaking Sunder's roots are from the Mangalore area in Karnataka.

Sunder joined Asianet this year and was involved in launching its Kannada general entertainment channel Suvarna.
