Chennai Open 2008 to air on 16 TV channels

MUMBAI: The Chennai Open, India's first ATP International Series Tennis tournament and one of the only nine ATP events in Asia, will now reach a much wider audience worldwide.

The event will air on 16 international TV channels reaching more than one billion households across 140 countries worldwide. In India it will air on Zee Sports.

The event takes place from 31 December 2007 - 6 January, 2008 at the SDat Nungambakkam Stadium in Chennai.

The other channels that will air the event include Viasat Sport A/S in Scandinavia, Arab Media Corporation for Pan Middle East, Pragosport for Romania, Hungary and Czech Republic, Supersport in Africa, Canalsatelite Digital in Spain, Indovision in Indonesia and Abu Dhabi Media in the Middle East.

Players in action include World No 2 Rafael Nadal, Marcos Baghdatis, Carlos Moya, Mikhail Youzhny and the defending champion and winner of a rare double at the event Xavier Malisse.

31 brands, have got associated with the event. The sponsors include Chennai Petroleum, Indian Bank, Larsen and Toubro, Indian Oil Corporation, Murugappa Group, Steel Authority of India, United India Insurance, BSNL.

There are also category partners. The courtesy car is from Mercedes Benz. While the official food is Pathankot, Rolex has signed on as time keeper. Dunlop is the ball and racquet partner. Pepsi has been roped in as the soft drink company while Baskin Robbins handles dessert.

Chennai Open tournament director Fernando Soler says, "Sports is a major force in connecting people and we are delighted that we are able to reach a wider audience worldwide this year. The tremendous response and support that we receive from our partners indicates that the tournament is growing. The presence of stars like Rafael Nadal, Marcos Baghdatis, Carlos Moya, Mikhail Youzhny, Xavier Malisse and others is a reiteration of the fact that Chennai is fast becoming a permanent destination on the International Tennis calendar.
