MUMBAI: Building on its recent international expansion, video search engine Truveo has unveiled video search sites for seven additional countries: Australia, Brazil, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Russia and Turkey. This expansion establishes Truveo's presence in 16 of the top 20 Internet countries and enables it to better serve its growing base of worldwide users.

Each new Truveo international destination features high-quality video of regional interest and allows users to search and discover videos in their native language. These sites join Truveo's rapidly growing family of video search sites, which also include India, France, Germany, the UK and the US.

Truveo CEO and co-founder Timothy Tuttle says, "The first phase of our international expansion has been tremendously successful. In the first month after our international launch, we have seen traffic to Truveo websites grow by 250 per cent and now more than 70 per cent of visitors to Truveo websites are from outside the United States.

"Internet video has become a worldwide phenomenon. Truveo is committed to offering the absolute best video search experience to users, no matter where in the world they are located. In the coming months, we will continue to expand our international presence in order to bring great video search to as many Internet users as possible."

AOL executive VP Kevin Conroy says, "We continue to see the increasing importance of video to Internet users both in the United States and around the world. We're looking forward to extending the reach of online video to even more destinations in 2008 through the launch of additional Truveo sites and AOL portals around the world."

In addition to indexing user-generated video from popular video uploading sites such as YouTube, Dailymotion and Kewego, Truveo also features a selection of professionally produced video from media brands like Fairfax Digital and Sydney Morning Herald from Australia; Videolog from Brazil and Hürriye from Turkey.

As part of its worldwide expansion, Truveo has been working closely with regional content providers to make their video searchable across the hundreds of websites powered by the Truveo video search network. As part of this effort, Truveo says that it has enabled content providers to better serve their local user base as well as reach millions of new users in countries around the world.
