MUMBAI: Mobile Magic, a chain of mobile phone boutiques, along with Hungama Mobile has launched a new retail service, Media Magic. It will provide retail platform for mobile users to buy legal and rich content like games, applications, movies, and music in an offline format.

The company claims to have acquired the licence to distribute over 500 movies, which include regional titles in many languages, in addition to Bollywood movies, over 5000 songs, and huge numbers of wall papers and games.

"The consumers will get DVD quality movies in all languages, all with legal content and software. This will ensure benefits like extended battery life and no software problems," said Media Magic CEO Vijay Singh.

Singh also added that "the broadband penetration is not high in India, whereas the mobile phone penetration is. We are mainly targeting the 80 per cent non-GPRS enabled device owners of the 225 million mobile phone users in India."

For now, a list of about 500 titles in DVD quality print will be available for purchase at all outlets. English videos will be available for about Rs 100 per title and Hindi movies around Rs 30. Movies will be available in English, Hindi and other regional languages.

The company is planning on over 10,000 retail outlets across the country.
