MUMBAI:
The Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI)-distributed
TV series The Tudors won the runner-up award for best
mini-series at the Seoul Drama Awards ceremony in Seoul.
The
only English-language TV programme nominated in this category,
SPTI says that the show has gained a strong following in South
Korea ever since the series debut there in July.
The
award was accepted by Ousama Rawi, the director of photography
for the show. The second season is currently in production
in Ireland.
The
10-episode drama premiered on 1 July on CJ Medias top
channel, CH. CGV,
to a cable TV 2.67 per cent rating, beating the ratings of
such US series as Greys Anatomy and CSI.
According
to TNS Korea and CH. CGV ratings data, The Tudors continued
its strong performance in its second week with a 13 per cent
increase. Overall, the series has outperformed CH. CGVs
primetime average ratings by 78 per cent.
The
TV series tells the story of Henry VIII in the tumultuous
early years of his 40-year reign over England. Bold and passionate
about his country and his women, Henrys obsession with
ensuring his legacy led to beheading of friend and foe, waging
wars, and challenging the Catholic Church of England
events that would forever change the soul of the British Empire.
The Tudors is an exhilarating tale filled with passion,
cruelty and treachery.
