digital pay-TV satellite platform.
Sony
Entertainment Television (Set), the general entertainment
family channel and Animax, the animé channel, will
be available for the first time in South Africa, Namibia,
Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, Kenya, Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
MultiChoice provides entertainment pay-TV services via digital
satellite in Africa, under the DSTV brand name.
The
company offers a bouquet of more than 70 video, 40 audio,
28 radio and 6 interactive channels, which include sports,
movies, news and entertainment, to over one million subscribers
in the region.
SPTI
senior VP international networks Ross Hair said, "We
are delighted to be breaking new ground by launching three
of our channels in Africa. Our collaboration with such a strong
and proven pay-TV player in MultiChoice gives us a solid platform
on which to build. I look forward to bringing DSTV subscribers
great entertainment and advertisers great opportunities to
promote their brands."
MultiChoice head of content Aletta Alberts said, "Sony
Pictures Television International is renowned for its world
class television channels. The addition of AXN to our Portuguese
bouquet earlier this year and Set (Sony Entertainment Television)
and Animax to our Premium English bouquet in November this
year, will translate into yet more choice and deeper enjoyment
for our MultiChoice viewers. The Animax channel will add a
completely new genre to the bouquet, never before seen in
a channel format on the continent."
