MUMBAI:
National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) has acquired
Camels, Courts, and Concubines: The Adventures of Ibn Battutah.
This
is a three-part travelogue that follows in the footsteps of
the pioneering 14th Century Moroccan scholar, Ibn Battutah.
The series will air on NGC channels globally and Nat Geo Adventure
in December, reaching audiences in 165 countries around the
world.
Camels,
Courts, and Concubines: The Adventures of Ibn Battutah
pays tribute to Battutah, a legendary traveller who set out
on his pilgrimage to Mecca in 1325. Upon leaving his hometown
of Tangiers, Battutah embarks on a monumental 30-year journey
around much of the ancient world. Across 120,000 kilometres,
40 countries and 3 continents, his incredible adventures have
earned him a place in Arabic Folklore.
In
celebration of Battutahs 700th birthday, Tim Mackintosh-Smith,
an Islamic expert and medieval scholar, sets off to follow
the path of the worlds first backpacker. Described as
the best travel writer of his generation, Mackintosh-Smith
traces the route through old worlds and new, reinstating Ibn
Battutah as a world-renowned legend, and uncovering the history
and culture behind this great journey.
Endemol
director of sales and distribution Matt Creasey says, "One
of the particularly relevant and fascinating aspects of this
series is the way it shows the diversity of the Islamic world
both in the Middle Ages and today. It has already received
widespread critical acclaim in the UK and is ideally suited
for National Geographic Channels Internationals global
network."
NGCI
executive VP content Sydney Suissa says,"Camels, Courts,
and Concubines: The Adventures of Ibn Battutah is an excellent
cross-channel series, able to blend adventure, old world history
and modern day reality in a unique way that appeals to our
core channel and Nat Geo Adventure audiences."
